Financial Controller

Location: Cherry Hill, New Jersey

Full-Time/In-Office position


About Us:

Schaeffer Homes, a leading production home builder in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team. We are committed to delivering high-quality homes while upholding the highest financial standards.


Position Overview:

As our Financial Controller, you'll oversee financial operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. You'll report directly to our Company Principals/Owners, playing a key role in our success.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise weekly draw vs. cost reports for work in progress.
  • Generate monthly financial statements, including Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and Cashflows.
  • Consolidate financial results into a monthly summary report.
  • Manage accounts payable, receivable, and check processing.
  • Oversee vendor and trade contractor payments.
  • Handle company checking accounts.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries and general ledger reports.
  • Coordinate with our CPA for tax filings.
  • Assemble job start packages.
  • Coordinate annual liability insurance bidding.
  • Supervise office support.
  • Maintain insurance certificates and documentation.
  • Prepare financial metrics and analysis.
  • Assist with cost variance analysis and billing.
  • Coordinate employee benefits and payroll.
  • Maintain the Company Chart of Accounts.
  • Attend team meetings.
  • Communicate our mission and core values.


Requirements for Success:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (MBA preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in a similar position at a residential home building concern or related industry preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in finance and accounting.
  • Organizational aptitude.
  • Excellent technology skills.
  • Experience with insurance and financial processes.
  • Understanding of draw requests and reporting.
  • Commitment to confidentiality.
